The animation from the "ASR" web
site states,
"A small portion of streamflow is diverted".
In Florida, millions of gallons per day (billions proposed for the Everglades)
are diverted for "ASR".
"ASR" proponents call this
"excess
water".
There is no "excess
water".
For most of Florida, this "diverted"
water is highly-contaminated
stormwater run-off from thousands of acres of non-porous surfaces
(like asphalt and concrete roads, parking lots, drive-ways).
In some cases (like the Everglades) it also is run-off/
diverted water from agricultural lands.
Originally that water was absorbed
by the land,
being filtered and recharging the aquifer, streams, lakes, and wetlands naturally
- at no cost to the tax-payers.
"ASR" costs the tax-payers MILLIONS of dollars $$$$$.
In some cases the injected "ASR"
water is treated sewage.
Millions of gallons a day of treated sewage is injected into Florida's aquifers.
The agencies do not know where this injected sewage goes.
Even if all the "diverted"
water was "treated"
- as the "ASR" web site suggests -
typical treatment to "drinking water standards" does not remove
hazardous components like algal toxins and many other harmful chemicals
linked to learning disorders and reproductive malfunctions.
